Happy birthday to MEEEE! Here is a present.

You guys! It is my birthday. I KNOW. The only thing I want for my birthday is to not have the baby, because I hate sharing. Ok, also because it’d be a month early and that would be terrible for a variety of reasons, but I really do hate sharing. Except with Erica, obviously (happy birthday Erica!) – it’s awesome to have a birthday twin, as long as it isn’t a family member, or your boss or something. For me, I mean. Maybe you aren’t as selfish as I am, I don’t know. Wait though, I’m going to do something un-selfish for my birthday! Just wait a minute while I do some self-centered rambling. Or scroll down, I’m not your mom.

Ok so there are some other things I want for my birthday: this delicious cake from a local bakery that I’m PRET-ty sure my husband is getting, because I asked for it like NINETEEN TIMES, and then also a massage because in case you forgot, I’m rull pregnant over here, and it kind of hurts. Well, I scored big because my bro/SIL/niece/nephew got me a prenatal massage, and I think my husband is getting me one tooooo, and so everything’s coming up SUSIE.

It’s not all about me, though. Nope. This year, instead of declaring May “Susie’s Birthday Month” and making Kevin do All The Chores while I recline on the couch, I have continued to contribute normally to my household (real talk: I do ~25% of The Things, and Kevin does the rest because he is a saint). Ok, except for the days when I was too sick with this godawful bronchitis business, but that wasn’t like, a TREAT for me or anything.

ALSO, I’m doing a GIVEAWAY. Here is the deal: for Christmas, my MIL got me a lovely necklace that I love:

Reasons this necklace is awesome: This is the only song I know enough of the words to that I can sing it to Eliza; it’s neither gold nor silver so I feel like I can wear it with anything; because of it’s construction, the clasp doesn’t slide down to the front; It’s CUTE.

The necklace is from this etsy seller, who has lots of adorable things but is also on vacation. When my MIL bought originally it, she was sent two by mistake, and because the seller is AWESOME, she said to just keep the spare. I would like to pass along the nice gesture, and give someone a present for my birthday. Except I am really terrible about shipping things, so it’s unlikely I will mail it in a timely manner, sorry I’m not sorry.

SO: if you would like a pretty necklace, leave me a comment saying so. Um, by tonight I guess? Midnight PST? Yeah. And then I will pick a winner, somehow or another. And then, SOMEDAY, I will mail someone a necklace! Wheee!

Ok that’s all. Have a lovely mybirthday!

How do you think I feel, having to share birthday EVERY YEAR? Gah, twins. And she wins every year in the “see how many people tell you Happy Birthday because Facebook told everyone it was your birthday” game. Not fair at all.

    I’d like a pretty necklace. Who wouldn’t?

    Happy birthday friend.

I have a similar I-don’t-know-songs situation happening so that’s my go-to lullaby/song to sing to children. My 8yo almost always wears a necklace and the 4yo is picking up on this fashion statement as well. I feel weird asking for a nice necklace to let one of my kids wear, but if no one else has a good use for it, I’m sure they would LOVE it. Not sure how I’d pick which one to give it to, but maybe I’ll make them do chores to earn this token of my approval. Or something. But! Feel free to give it to an actual adult commenter if you prefer. I tooootally understand. *I* believe the children are our future, but I know SOME people don’t feel that way. (no, really–it’s cool)

  3. Linnea says:

My due date is 11-18, but I’m kind of hoping for 11-11 or 11-12-13.

Your face is adorable & happy birthday. I’d like a necklace.

  4. regan says:

I was kind of hoping the prize would be a random bottle of chemicals but the necklace is pretty sweet too.

  5. Miriel says:

    I would, I would, I would like a necklace!! It’s so pretty!

  6. Cherie Beyond says:

Just this morning my kids were singing Jingle Bells in the backseat and I was all, “Um, maybe try singing a spring song, guys?” and they were all “What’s a spring song?” and I sang this one as it was the only thing remotely relevant one I could think of.

    Kismet, clearly.

  7. mjb says:

My husband made me a wall sign with that phrase for Christmas, but only because I specifically asked for it!

  8. Stephanie M says:

Happy Happy Birthday!!!! And I LOVE that necklace, so I’d be thrilled to win.

  9. Julie says:

That’s the only song that worked as a lullaby for my kids. Well, that and Silent Night. I still sing it to them (well, Silent Night, too, but not when it’s a million degrees outside).

  10. Holly says:

Happy Birthday Sweetie… I am glad you are enjoying your day.

  11. Michelle says:

“You are my sunshine” was my grandparents’ song. They even had a toilet paper roll that played it. That’s right, every time you went to get toilet paper, you were serenaded with “You are my sunshine.” It’s every bit as weird as you imagine it to be.

It was also one of the first songs Emery learned to sing and I love it.

    Happy birthday, Susie!

  12. Meredith K A says:

Happiest of birthdays to YOU! That is a sweet necklace, I would love to maybe someday get it in my mailbox. I wish you the most gloriously relaxing prenatal massages ever!

  13. Anne says:

Aww, my mom used to sign that song to me! And I sing it to Simon all the time and get all teary. I’d love to have that necklace.

  14. April says:

This is one I still sing to mine, love that song. Happy Birthday!

  15. chris says:

No way! That’s also the only song I know and the one I sing to Charlie when he is sad. Love it.

  16. Audrey says:

Happy, happy birthday! I hope it’s positively wonderful!

Also: That’s a pretty necklace. I would like one, please.

(But I totally am not commenting JUST to get the necklace. I’m mostly commenting to wish you a happy birthday.)

  17. Nimble says:

Aw, I have a May birthday too and I support everyone celebrating the entire month. Go on!
Hey and you get to celebrate somebody else’s birthday next month. Don’t enter me because I am weird and that song has always creeped me out. I don’t mind everyone else enjoying it, so as you were.

  18. Erica says:

No one else can share with us! IT’S OURS. Getting the necklace for my/our birthday almost seems like cheating but I DON’T CARE.

  19. Jessica says:

Happy Birthday! I salute your right to a Birthday Month, I used to get a whole week and now Chris is on me to just have the day. That is total crap, it’s a celebration!

Also, that necklace is adorable. I love Etsy sellers that are generous. I bought some hair pins once and she gave me a pair of earrings. I wear the earrings more now than the hairpins!

  20. Melissa A says:

I think I would give this to my sister-in-law. She’s due with a baby girl in August and she’d love it.

  21. HereWeGoAJen says:

Happy birthday! I hope there is lots of cake and sleep!

  22. April says:

Happy birthday! Your necklace is lovely. I’ve left this comment five times and it keeps messing up so now I’m frustrated and I think there was more I was going to say but I’m annoyed. Hope your day/week/month is lovely!

  23. Erica says:

Happy Birthday! You look adorbs. I am so excited to find out if you are having a girl or a boy! But not too soon! I mean, I am excited to find out at the right time when the baby is supposed to be here. You know what I mean.

  24. Jessica says:

Happy birthday! I always love a good necklace and yours is cute!

My birthday’s actually tomorrow and personally I think May birthdays are the super best.

You should definitely celebrate all weekend, since your birthday’s on a Friday, it only makes sense.

  25. Maria says:

    Aw man, happy birthday, dude

  26. Dalziel says:

I love that little song. I used to sing it to Emersyn every morning when she was a newborn. (I feel like I should say hi! Long time lurker, occasional commenter here.)

  27. Faith says:

This is the first song I taught my daughter all the words to, and we still (she’s nearly 3) sing it together every single night. That’s an adorable necklace. I need one to pass down to her at her wedding so I can cry like a baby and embarrass her! (Also, happy birthday! I share a birthday with my non-twin sister, so I know what you mean about preferring not to.)

  28. Sheila says:

    Happy birthday! Cute necklace

  29. Kate says:

    What a nice MIL present!

  30. Arwen says:

That necklace is so great. And it makes me want to go buy things from the Etsy seller, just because she’s clearly awesome.

  31. Pseudostoops says:

    Happy birthday, snoozles!

  32. Curly girl says:

What a gorgeous necklace! This is the song my daughter and I sing every night. I gives me the feelings.

  33. Ginger says:

First, happy birthday! Glad you get to keep it to yourself (in your house)–I know that same fear, and I remember being so GLAD when I made it to the day after my birthday still pregnant.

That necklace is awesome. It’s one of maybe 3 songs I can ever remember the words to when I’m trying to sing to Jackson (the others are somewhere over the rainbow and i will follow you into the dark, which is not, actually, that appropriate of a lullaby. Who knew?).

  34. kathleenicanrah says:

late to the birthday party, but wanted to say hope you had a great day, and that you’re still feeling good and not to terribly pregnant. I mean, you ARE nearing the pregnancy is terrible part, but hope you are feeling well-ish. can’t wait to hear what you name the little one– I love all your options. good luck in these last few weeks!

  35. K says:

Son of a bitch. Not only am I late to wish you a “happy birthday!”, but I’m also late to the necklace giveaway.

I guess everything isn’t coming up Susie for ME.

    (Sorry. Bit cranky today.)
